Mass Effect 3 Leviathan Single Player DLC Announced

Oh boy, just when I thought I was out I get dragged back in. Bioware just announced the first single-player DLC expansion for Mass Effect 3 named Leviathan which adds a promised 2-3 hours of extra gameplay to Commander Shepard’s campaign all for the low price of $10 Quatloos. I’ve written so much about this game already that it feels like it is all I have been doing for the past few months. Regardless, there’s no release date yet, just an enigmatic “Summer” timetable.

The question that needs to be asked is if this DLC will be a hit or not or if the controversy over the ending has in anyway caused the franchise to erode. Only Bioware knows what number of sales it requires to be a hit but considering this is DLC to the campaign I have a feeling many players might not care this time around since their Shepard narrative has long since ended one way or the other.

As for myself my views of the game and ending are already known so I’ll definitely be picking it up and hoping it plays more like Shadow Broker rather than Arrival. Not to mention, I hope it adds significantly to the overall mythology and presents a few novel locations (that underwater shot is a good sign) in which to discover.  Am I going to review it?  I usually don’t do expansion/DLC reviews but who knows…

Here’s the 60 second teaser trailer:

Along with Bioware’s short description of the expansion:

“Something lurks in the dark corners of space, something powerful enough to kill a Reaper. Shepard must discover the most closely guarded secret in the galaxy before the Reapers silence it forever. Discover more about the origins of the Reapers as you race across the galaxy to find the Leviathan. Unravel the dark history of the Reaper Race before it is too late.

Taking place during the events of Mass Effect 3, players will be thrust into the darkest corners of space where they will hunt a mysterious being rumored to be powerful enough to destroy a Reaper. As they race against time, they will begin to unravel the secret of the Leviathan. Explore uncharted systems and new areas on the Citadel, interact with brand new characters, unlock the AT-12 Raider shotgun and M-55 Argus Assault Rifle and discover more about the mysterious history of the Reapers.”
