Here is a totally hilarious advertisement for the new Star Trek Video Game coming April 23 featuring good old William Shatner in yet another “fight” with his nemesis…the rubber suit Gorn as they continue their “battle” first seen over forty years ago! Not sure about the game but this is funny and a must see for original series fans.
Bioware just released the entire one hour Mass Effect panel that took place at PAX this past week which showcases members of the Mass Effect team talking about their experiences over the course of nine years working on the trilogy. While this is obviously meant for diehard fans it is certainly an interesting video as it gives some good insight into the production of arguably the best science fiction trilogy in video gaming history.
Here is a six minute retrospective video on the entire Mass Effect trilogy produced by Bioware featuring footage from all three games along with stories and comments from the Bioware staff about their favourite moments or characters. The video essentially serves as a final “goodbye” from Bioware to Commander Shepard’s trilogy of games and how bittersweet it feels to be leaving these much loved characters behind.
Here’s a great picture just released by Bioware detailing some significant stats on Mass Effect 3 that are sure to engender much debate. Although the game is now over a year old it is a testament to the series that it still generates a lot of interest although, to be fair, much of it lately was probably due to the Citadel DLC which most fans ended up loving. I’m still in the process of writing the Citadel DLC review so I apologize for the apparent delay.
Call me a purist but I wish that developer Digital Extremes and publisher Namco Bandai had decided to keep the original Gorn design since it has become so iconic to the series. Yes, I realize that the “Gorn Fight” in the original series episode “Arena” is widely ridiculed as being one of the worst onscreen fights in cinematic history but you have to admit that it is clearly in “so bad it’s good” territory. I would have loved to have seen new Kirk (Chris Pine) wrestle with a man in a bad rubber suit that moved as if it were a 200 year old geriatric patient yet it was not meant to be.
Just a quick FYI that Bioware has made the soundtrack for the Mass Effect 3 Citadel DLC available for free from their forums here. All you need to do is create a forum username/ID or use the one from EA’s Origin service. Although this is a great gesture from Bioware be advised that for some reason or other that the files are in wav format instead of the more common mp3s. I’m in the process of writing my review for the DLC which should be out a.s.a.p. although the bottom line is that it is a great send-off for the series and should be picked up immediately for all longtime fans of the franchise.
Well, all good things must come to an end thus here is the trailer for Citadel, the last Mass Effect 3 single-player DLC that releases tomorrow. Even though the game’s overall narrative is decidedly bleak I must say that Bioware seems to have thought that it was a good idea to lighten the mood a bit with this last piece of DLC and dial up the fan service to the nines.
